About Me

The work I have submitted shows my college and independent studies. I have used two photographs of my visit to New York to show that I have experienced both modern and traditional environments. This is adding to my experience of other countries and their cultures. This continues to enrich my perception of the world around me which I am capturing through photographs.
In my locality I used the Grosmont, in North Yorkshire, photo shoot to show some of my independent work which demonstrates my interest in derelict and abandoned surroundings. I feel these photographs show that these forgotten and decayed vehicles are beautiful in their own way.
The next seven images are examples of my college photography work. My project was “The Artificial World”, so I decided to concentrate on scale and proportion because I am interested in the miniature world, such as toys and fairies. I researched the Cottingley Fairies images and produced my own interpretation of them. I used Photoshop to manipulate these images to create a vintage appearance. I researched the photographer Slinkachu because he uses miniature toy train set figures to form his images. I then produced my own “Slinkachu style” photographs using his methods and ideas.  For my final images for this project I took ideas from my research and created my own miniature scene to photograph.
Currently my studies incorporate my love for photography with my interest and skill in textiles. I have a passion for 1970’s and 1980’s music particularly The Clash and Joy Division. The punk movement associated with this music has influenced some of my other projects in the last two years.
I am attracted to the programme of study at MMU as I feel it would enable me to access diverse cultural and artistic experiences. I would like to widen my knowledge and technical skills in a challenging environment. I think the programme being offered would allow me to do this whilst developing my individual creative style and ideas. I would like the opportunity to study alongside other students to share ideas but I think the course at MMU would also allow me to develop practically in an independent way. The course content includes the aspects of photography I feel I could excel in which I am sure could enable me to pursue a successful career in the field.
